Refinement
oil paint on wood
My work reads as a representation of the gospel. The triptych form, borrowed from early Christian art, has been transformed to engage our world today. With the caution tape symbolizing the nature of sin, Christ permeates through the fallacy of human nature and is able to bring life from death. Built up layers of paint, shellac and graphite as well as the enveloping dark spaces of the outer pieces emphasize the heaviness and entrapment of sin. This contrasts with the new life, hope, and growth that Christ's transcendence gives us which is evident in the forms present in the middle piece.
